Volkswagen Top For Security

Volkswagen has been named as the top manufacturer in this year's British Insurance Vehicle Security Awards, organised by Thatcham. Audi, part of the Volkswagen Group, was second, whileVolvo came third and was also given the International Vehicle Security Award.

Audi models won no fewer than five categories with the A1 (City Car/Supermini), A4 (Compact Executive), A5 Cabriolet (Open-Top, with the R8 Spyder and TT Roadster taking second and third), A8 W12 quattro (Performance) and Q5 (Compact 4x4).

Volkswagen took three category wins with the Phaeton (Luxury), Sharan (Large MPV) and Tiguan (Crossover), while Citroen achieved a similar tally with the C4 Picasso Exclusive (Compact MPV), C5 Exclusive (Family) and C6 (Executive).

The Toyota Prius, in T3 and T Spirit with solar panel forms, was named most secure Green car (the T4 and T Spirit without solar panel were placed second), and the rather less green Toyota Land Cruiser V8 won the Large 4x4 category. The remaining class win went to the Volvo C30, the highest-rated Small Family car.

The Volkswagen Amarok came out as best pickup, while Vauxhall took the award for top manufacturer in the Vans section.
